  • Keren Cytter in person, Moderated by Irina Bondas

Most of Keren Cytter's work consists of short or medium-length films, whose multifaceted nature and witty originality will be presented in two programs. Language and speech are the central themes of the first: In EXPERIMENTAL FILM (NL 2002), the director herself appears in front of the camera. In a duet with her friend, the artist Lior Shamriz, the characters exchange their voices and lines and spiral into a claustrophobically violent relationship. SOMETHING HAPPENED (Germany 2007) analyzes how cinema constructs conflicts between women and men, where elaborate lines (delivered without emotion) create a senseless exchange of misunderstandings. Inspired by Cassavetes' Opening Night, Cytter's UNTITLED (G 2009) transposes the true story of a boy who shot his father's lover from the confines of his home to the stage of Berlin's Hebbel Theater. Reality and fiction reach a dramatic climax between backstage and the audience.
